Chief Dunning is a native of Bloomington, Indiana and a graduate of Indiana University East with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. His career in criminal justice began as a Correctional Officer at the Monroe County Correctional Center. In 1995, he joined the Indiana University Police Department (IUPD) on the Bloomington campus, obtaining his Law Enforcement certification through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He has extensive training in all aspects of law enforcement including serving as a certified instructor in firearms, patrol rifles, and active shooter. In 2011, he moved north to the IUPD-IUPUI division where he has served as a Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Training Coordinator, and Lieutenant. In 2016, he became the IUPD-East Chief of Police here on the IU East campus.
