Diversity & Inclusion

Education is about discovering new ideas & perspectives

Diverse perspectives and experiences are celebrated at IU East! Understanding one another is what makes us a family. In fact, diversity is a key part of the college experience and is woven into our strategic priorities.

Each year we host a number of events to celebrate and educate people about diversity within our own community and around the world.

Diversity Statement

Indiana University East is an inclusive and welcoming campus that recognizes, celebrates and embraces differences and commonalities. This includes, but is not limited to, culture, language, ethnicity, race, religion, political opinion, socio-economic status, ability, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, veteran status, age and life experience. We are creating a learning and work environment in which people benefit from interaction with one another. At IU East, civil rights and civil liberties set the boundaries for respectful discourse and action. As we build an inclusive campus, Indiana University East will continue to engage in dialogue and commit the time, resources and leadership which will aid the continuous growth of respect for human rights of all peoples and cultures through curricular, co-curricular and administrative activities.

Campus Climate Survey FAQs

What is a Campus Climate Survey?

The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and the Diversity and Inclusion Coalition is excited to launch the official IU East Campus Climate Survey. It was developed to help facilitate a better understanding of our community's perspectives and experiences related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The data collected will be used to help understand the present climate at IU East and to inform future programming and planning.

The survey will be open until October 21 and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be filled out on a computer or mobile device. Participation is completely voluntary and responses will be kept confidential. Information will not be used to identify individuals in any manner.

What kinds of questions will be asked?

Questions will include topics such as:

The degree to which you feel welcomed on campus
Your rating of campus support for people from diverse backgrounds and identities
The extent to which you feel a sense of belonging on our campus
Whether you have experienced bias and/or discrimination

Will my survey responses be kept confidential?

Yes. Honest and authentic responses are needed to gather reliable data about the University’s climate. All responses will be completely confidential.

Names and e-mail addresses will only be collected for those who want to be eligible to receive a survey incentive. Participants will be directed to a different site to provide this information. There will be no ability to match survey data to names or e-mail addresses. Data will be reported in aggregate form and will never be attributable to an individual.

What will you do with the survey information?

The survey results will be shared with the campus community next semester and used to engage in action planning to make IU East more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
