Cooperating teachers are professional teachers who are willing to open their classrooms and share their students with one of our teachers-in-training who needs experience with real students via field experiences or student teaching.
Cooperating teachers work with one of our students for a year-long or semester-long student teaching experience, or for shorter field experiences that accompany courses.
You've gained wisdom through tough times, breakthroughs, tears of sadness, and tears of joy. Your job isn't easy, but you've made a difference in the lives of real children and families. Extend your reach even further by helping to inspire and prepare the next generation of teachers, reflect on your own practices and contribute to the profession.
Plus, you'll get an extra set of hands in the classroom and PGPs (Professional Growth Points)!
If you are a teacher at one of the cooperating school corporations (listed below) and meet the minimum qualifications, all you have to do is complete a summer workshop at Indiana University East.
Required qualifications
- Have at least 3 years of successful teaching experience,
- be highly qualified as defined in your area(s) of licensure,
- have a recommendation of the building administrator,
- and be committed to professional development (i.e., working toward or have completed a Master’s degree or other professional development work).
If your school is not listed as a cooperating school, get in touch with us! We'll work with administration to determine if partnering with us is right for your school corporation.
