All coursework (from IUE or other campuses or universities) must have an average GPA of 2.7 or higher as a condition of licensing verification toward the addition of another area of certification on a teacher’s existing license.

Admission to the Teacher Education Program includes meeting the following requirements:

All students must:

1. have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
2. have successfully passed the CASA exam.
3. *complete ENG-W 131 Freshman Composition and SPCH-S 121 Public Speaking with a C or better in each course. Students not meeting this standard will be required to complete an additional course in the area of deficiency with a B- or better.
4. *complete EDUC-P 254 (Educational Psychology for Teachers of All Grades) with a B- or better with successful completion of the EDUC-M 201 field experience.
5. successfully complete an interview and writing sample.
6. submit an application form to the SOE Admissions Committee.
7. sign Professional Agreement document

Secondary students must have a 2.5 GPA in the following group of courses:

• EDUC-P 254 Educational Psychology for Teachers of All Grades
• EDUC-M 300 Teaching in a Pluralistic Society
• EDUC-K 306 Teaching Students with Special Needs
• EDUC-F 203 The Adolescent Mind
• EDUC-K 410 Trends and Issues in Special Education

Students must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) prior to the beginning of the semester in which they intend to begin their methods courses. To ensure this is accomplished in a timely fashion the following deadlines apply for all semesters:

• Applications for admission to Teacher Education must be submitted to the School of Education Admissions and Retention Committee no later than one week after grades are received for the semester just completed if it includes any of the TEP prerequisites.
