Zoom

Zoom is a web collaboration tool available to all Indiana University students, faculty, and staff. Features include:

  • Supports up to 100 simultaneous participants, while a large meeting can support up to 300 participants.
  • High-quality audio and video, intuitive sharing and co-annotation tools, breakout rooms, whiteboarding tools, the ability to easily add content to a meeting on the fly, and the option to download meeting recordings as MP4 files.
  • Integrates into Canvas as an external tool, and has apps for all platforms, including fully featured iOS and Android apps.
  • High-quality video and recording features allow for recording simple videos with a webcam.

Kaltura

Kaltura is a cloud-based video management system that can be used for storing, publishing, and streaming videos, video collections, and other types of media. The system integrates with Canvas, but if you plan to use Kaltura outside of Canvas, you'll work directly with the web-based video management application known as Kaltura MediaSpace. With Kaltura, instructors can upload media and record their screen or webcam. Faculty can use Kaltura to support and enhance traditional, hybrid, and fully online courses. If you plan to use Kaltura outside of Canvas, you'll work directly with the web-based video management application known as Kaltura MediaSpace.

TopHat

Top Hat is a comprehensive teaching platform that instructors can use to engage students both within and outside of the classroom with interactive slides, graded questions, customized content, videos, discussions, and polls. Students use smartphones, tablets, laptops, or ordinary cell phones to participate in Top Hat activities.

Turnitin (Plagarism Detection)

Turnitin is web-based plagiarism detection software owned by Turnitin.com, Inc. Turnitin can be used as a deterrent, but also as an educational tool to teach students how to work with sources and to improve paraphrasing and quoting skills. The integration of Turnitin into the Assignments tool of Canvas allows students to submit written work to both their instructors and Turnitin at the same time.

Microsoft 365 (Cloud Storage & Office Apps)

Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) is a subscription-based service that allows IU students, faculty, and staff to use the newest versions of Microsoft Office on their personal Windows and macOS computers, via the web with Office Online apps, and on their smartphones and tablets with Office Mobile apps. Your IU Microsoft 365 subscription allows you to install Microsoft Office on up to five personal computers (Windows and macOS), five tablets (Windows, iPad, and Android), and five phones. The subscription entitles you to use the software as long as your IU computing accounts are active; you are not entitled to use the software after you leave IU.

Google at IU makes apps in Google's G Suite for Education available at no fee to Indiana University students, faculty, staff, and affiliates. Apps include: Google Drive (cloud storage), calendar, jamboard, sites, and more!

Equipment

Equipment is available for checkout for 2 week periods. All equipment is available for faculty and staff use. Equipment check-out is based on 'first come, first serve' basis, so please call or e-mail ahead and reserve equipment as soon in advance as possible.

Digitization

The CFD is happy to provide digital conversions of course materials for use in both face-to-face and online classes. These services include:

  • DVD/CD authoring, burning, duplication, and labeling;
  • and conversions of DVD to digital, and VHS to DVD.
